What is Lasik?

Lasik or Laser in situ keratomileusis. a treatment that corrects myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.

What is IntraLase?

A thin corneal flap is created in the first step of Lasik. The IntraLase laser system is 100% blade free technology. It is more precise in producing a quality flap than with a microkeratome. This will provide a better result in vision and less chance of glare and halos.

 


 

How do I know if I am a good candidate for Lasik?

The best way to find out if you are a good candidate to is schedule a free refractive consultation with Dr. Sanan.

  • You should be at least 18 years of age.
  • You should have a stable prescription for at least 1 year.
  • You must NOT be pregnant or nursing.

 


 

What if I am not a good candidate for Lasik, do I have other options?

After your exam with Dr. Sanan, he will discuss options with you. Depending on the results of your exam some other options may include:

  • Glasses
  • Contacts
  • ICL Visian Implantable Contact Lens
  • Cataract Surgery with an IOL

 


 

How long will the laser procedure take?

The laser procedure will only take 10-15 minutes. However, you will be at The Arizona Eye Laser Center for 1 1/2-2 hours on the day of your laser surgery.

How soon can I go swimming?

You will need to avoid swimming for 3 weeks after surgery. this includes Swimming pool, jacuzzi, ocean, scuba diving. Even if you are wearing goggles.

 


 

When can I wear eye makeup?

You will have to avoid wearing eye makeup for 1 week after surgery.

 


 

Do I have to stop wearing my contacts before my Laser surgery?

Yes, you need to discontinue use of contacts prior to surgery.

  • Soft Contact Lenses-1 week before your final examination prior to surgery.
  • Rigid Gas Permeable-At least 3 weeks prior.
  • Soft Toric-At least 3 weeks prior.
  • Hard lenses-At least 3 weeks prior.

*Some patients may require additional time out of lenses to ensure the cornea returns to its natural state prior to final examination.

 


 

When can I go back to work?

Generally, most patients can return to work the following day. For LasEk, PRK, or Advanced Surface treatments you may need to take additional days off.

 


 

Can I drive myself to my laser surgery?

NO, you will need to arrange for a driver on the day of your laser surgery.

 


 

Will I feel any pain during the surgery?

You may experience some mild discomfort or pressure. Anesthetic eye drops will be given to numb your eye so you will not feel any pain.

 


 

Is there a fee for the consultation?

No, Pima Eye Institute offers a free consultation with Dr. Sanan. Contact our office to schedule.

 


 

When will I meet the Doctor?

You will meet Dr. Sanan on the day of your consultation. This will give you the opportunity to discuss any concerns and have all your questions answered.

 


 

Who will I see for my follow up care?

Dr. Sanan will see you for all your follow up care.

 


 

Is the surgery done in Tucson or do I have to travel?

No, our surgery center is located here in Tucson at the Arizona Eye Laser Center. No inconvenience of having to travel to Phoenix.

 


 

Can I use my FSA (Flex Spending Account)?

Yes, you can use your FSA. In most cases you will pay for your procedure up front, then your company will reimburse you for the cost of your procedure.
